3 Organizing Trends I’m Not Into

My recent purchase of a shirt from Express (yes, they are still around) proves the power of influencers on the ‘gram. Heck, I share my life, tips and tricks in hopes to influence you in a positive direction. However, we must be aware that sometimes, influencers influences (mine included) will not work for us. For example…

Color Sorting Legos
Don’t get me wrong – a rainbow display of binned Legos sounds dreamy. However, I’m the only person in this household with that dream. My kids don’t care. Sifting through these bins (you know the sound) for the ninja sword or 2 x 4 block is part of the fun. A stash of these base plates (Easter basket idea!) keeps them in super creative mode. The quick cleanup has me in super happy mom mode.

Backstock
This phrase - soooo official sounding for the extra 6 detergents and 48 cans of tomatoes that were the BOGO deal. Some people even have a “backstock pantry” (can you imagine?!). I love the idea of saving money when buying in bulk and even follow a few true professional backstockers. But for me, one backUP works better than finding homes for the backSTOCK. (Note: check your backstock of years old birthday themed paper plates stashed beautifully in a bin. How's that stock performing for you?)

All the Pretty Labels
If stylish handwriting is your thing, it’s tempting to go for the pre-made label sets. Talk about a deep dive in an Etsy rabbit hole (says this Etsy vendor). There are so many options - fonts, color, sizes, WORDS? I prefer to just keep it simple (shocking) with a no-frills label maker. My labels are ready exactly when I need them. No waiting on the delivery or a trip to the Container Store to wrap up the project.

Keep in mind - these activities don't work for me and my family. To some, color sorting Legos actually results in their kids playing with them more. BRAVO! I love it. Making pretty labels may be your favorite part of the whole process. Bravo again.

I keep coming back to the phrase "You Do You". Your you may be looking to improve in certain areas and I’m here for that party. But make sure your you is falling in love with ideas that are REALISTIC, ACHIEVABLE, DOABLE, AND MAINTAINABLE for YOU.

p.s. The jury is still out on the Express shirt.
