Wins + Losses + Surprises
Keeping it simple this week because life is complicated enough right now. Here are 3 things that are working for me, 3 things I'm letting go and 3 things I'm pretty excited about. Enjoy!
WHAT’S WORKING
Mom Free Free Time
Designate free time where you will play Sorry or bake cookies (again) and other free time when they are on their own. Carving out alone time during their school time wasn’t working for me because, duh, I’m the teacher and my students require help.
Show Menu
The endless choices for educational shows can overwhelm all of us. Simplify it by creating a menu for the kiddos like this one.
Your Support
The positive feedback and love notes I receive keep me going. A simple, free, distanced thing anyone can provide to anyone. Thanks for inspiring me to spread the love even more next week with a few personal notes and snail mail items.
WHAT’S NOT WORKING
All Meals. All Family.
Nope. Not for us. Some nights I feed the kids early and Scott and I fend for ourselves. Consider this the new version of taking the night off.
Less Sweat.
I quickly went from highly motivated sweat seeker to counting family bike rides as exercise. My mind, body and soul crave the dripping sweat. I’m back on free HIIT workouts and anything else I do is an added bonus. Trick: Crank your space heater next to you if you need a little help getting the sweat going. No one will notice the 80-degree room but may notice the spring in your step.
Personal Projects
Home does not equal endless free time, maybe the exact opposite. I have read less than before and created zero photo albums. And that’s ok. If you haven’t tackled your closet or organized your garage, be kind to yourself. Your nightly bathtub soak is more important right now.
DID YOU KNOW?
Target launched a line with the super talented Studio McGee. Ohhhh emmmm geeee. Let’s all pretend we’re walking the aisles and grabbing gems like this and this.
The Oprah Winfrey Show: The Podcast...“Hand-picked legendary interviews, a-ha moments, ugly cries and unforgettable surprises.” I have chills.
Ina Garten is making everything even easier for us. Permission to leave something out if you don’t have it (I need this reassurance) and substitution ideas warm my soul like this soup will tonight.
